A morning with Boppa!
The first grade classes enjoyed a wonderful morning with Boppa and his helpers. Boppa, the grandfather of two of our children, came to class to share some of the wonders of Santa, his reindeer and his elves. The children loved listening to him - just look at their faces! Afterward, Boppa's helpers made reindeer dust with our children. Don't forget to sprinkle that dust on the lawn Christmas Eve!

The Henry Ford!
What a day it was!!! We had a wonderful time on our field trip to the Henry Ford Museum. I must say, the children enjoyed the Lego Castle most of all! They could have built and played in there forever. But...they also got to see Santa and mail the letters they wrote in class. They enjoyed making paper airplanes near the aviation exhibit, climbing aboard the famous "Rosa Parks Bus", looking at the famous Kennedy car, and walking among the gigantic trains. A special thanks goes out to all our chaperones for joining us on this trip!

It's December!
It is hard to believe that it is already December! We'll be busy this month, focusing on Advent and getting ready for Christmas. The children are trying to remember that Jesus would like us to be kind to one another. So many of us get our houses all ready for Christmas, but forget to get ourselves ready for Christmas. If we can think about acting in a way that would please Jesus, we will be getting ourselves for Christmas. Each time we catch the children being kind, they are going to glue some cotton to their stocking. Hopefully we'll have some really "fluffy" stockings by the end of the month.
We are really excited about our upcoming field trip to the Henry Ford Museum as well! Look for some pictures in the next post!

How cute they all look in their costumes!
Our children had a great time at their Halloween party! We joined forces with Mrs. Wiggins' room, and Mrs. Pizzo coordinated lots of helpers and lots of activities. The children enjoyed playing bingo, doing spin art, sand art, eating, getting tattoos and more. Thanks to all parents who helped by donating either their time or items needed to make the party successful!

Halloween week...
Having such a short week, we will not be doing spelling or reading as we usually do. We will however be reading and writing lots about Halloween. Below is one of the poems the students will be reading. Ask them to read it to you (and do the motions we learned too!).
Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins, sitting on a gate.
The first one said,
“Oh, my it’s getting late!”
The second one said,
“There are witches in the air!”
The third one said,
“But we don’t care!”
The fourth one said,
“Let’s run and run and run!”
The fifth one said,
“I’m ready for some fun!”
Oooo went the wind,
and
out went the lights,
And the five little pumpkins
rolled out of sight.

From the Author's Chair...
Our first stories have been published! The children worked hard before finally publishing their All About Me books. First they made a four square picture page to generate ideas. Then they drafted sentences to go with their pictures. With some help from Mrs. Bzura, the children edited and revised their sentences, making the necessary corrections. Finally, they put their sentences on paper, illustrated each page, and added a cover. The best part for most was reading their story to the rest of the class from the "Author's Chair"!

First Few Weeks...
We are off to a great start in room 22! The children are thriving in a smaller setting. It is nice to see all of our first grade friends at recess and other special times during the week. We look forward to our "specials classes" starting this coming week. We will be certain to forward a schedule to you as soon as it's solidified.
